The Thornton Manuscript

Beast Fables - Comic 25 - Thorn returns with the Thornton Manuscript

Medieval Moment: The Thornton Manuscripts refer to two manuscripts compiled (and curated) by Robert Thornton, who copied over a number of medieval romances, various religious hymns and sermons, and medical treatments for various ailments. It’s an important collection, because it helps us understand the practices of household manuscript production, circulating quires, and the interests of at least one medieval reader. He also copied many romances, some of which are the only surviving copy, so it’s a big win for medieval scholarship in general that these survived fires and the knife to make it to today.
