Medieval Moment: This comic is referencing kinds of figures from medieval romances. Sir Topaz is referring to Chaucer’s knight from “The Tale of Sir Topas”, who would much rather eat and drink than fight a giant. The Pentangle refers to the shield decoration from “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”. The giant refers to “Sir Eglamour of Artois”, who tries to protect his prized deer from Eglamour and is instead slain. See? I keep telling you there’s lots of fun stuff in these old poems.
